Hot from his spotlight on the Howard Stern Show, comedian Artie Lange teamed with SNL-writer and first-time director Frank Sebastiano for 2006’s BEER LEAGUE. A throwback to the raunchy comedies the pair grew up on in the ’70s and ’80s BEER LEAGUE also serves as a stand-up-comic-driven narrative like BACK TO SCHOOL or THE JERK, wherein the story exists to showcase a comedian at the top of their game. Lange stars as Artie DeVanzo, an out-of-work, out-of-shape average joe whose only passion greater than baseball is drinking. When an old high school rival puts Artie’s small-town softball team at risk of being ousted from the league, he’s forced to rally his ratag friends to do the unthinkable: practice. While the film notoriously wasn’t given a chance theatrically, its since emerged as cult classic, with a long list of worthy players on its roster including Seymour Cassel, Mr. Show’s Jerry Minor, The State’s Joe Lo Truglio, SNL’s Jim Breuer, stand ups Todd Barry and Nick DiPaolo, and even a cameo from Tina Fey. Curated by Mike Hunchback.
Introduced by writer/director Frank Sebastiano.
