Matthew Miele, the acclaimed director behind Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s (2013) and Always at The Carlyle (2018), helms this authorized documentary, bringing his expert storytelling skills to a new subject. Known for his ability to capture the cultural impact of iconic institutions and figures, Miele explores Mackie’s personal and professional journey in a way that both celebrates and humanizes the iconic designer. Miele’s previous works, including Harry Benson: Shoot First! (2016) and Alan Pakula: Going for Truth(2019), have garnered critical acclaim for their insider access and compelling narratives, and Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion promises the same.

Quixotic Endeavors was granted rare access to his extensive archives, showcasing never-before-seen sketches, designs, and personal artifacts. Audiences will also hear directly from Mackie as he reflects on his most iconic creations, such as the Scarlett O’Hara parody dress from The Carol Burnett Show and Cher’s legendary feathered headdress at the 1986 Academy Awards.
