A highschooler who’s just lost her virginity works at a run-down movie theater where half the employees have slept together and everyone places bets on each other’s sexual misfortune. Despite this, most of them find a way to be happy. It’s propaganda for the DIY-film philosophy of hangin’ out, which perfectly encapsulates the tight-knit ecosystem of movie-workin’ life.

“To celebrate the third issue of CASHIERS DU CINÉMA, the PREMIERE anthology about movie theater work/ers, we have chosen to screen really the only movie that made sense, Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore. Can life go on in the lobby of a theater while the film’s playing? If a tree falls in the forest, etc… MJ is great because it honestly depicts what it’s like to exist in states of in-betweenness: in between innocence and maturity, conception and childbirth, hangovers and resumed drunkenness, jobs, and – most importantly – between movies. It turns out it’s stupid and difficult, but it’s a living.
