Director Malia James, who is also the former bassist of Sub Pop’s Dum Dum Girls and Kill Rock Star’s Marnie Stern, has been taking the music video world by storm for the last decade. She has become a top choice among artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Interpol, Green Day, Halsey, MØ, Troye Sivan, Dev Hynes, Rita Ora, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club among many others. Her background in music and performance allows her to see eye-to-eye with artists, and direct with a hands-on approach. Malia’s moments feel believable and authentic, portraying visceral emotions through her love of beautiful lighting, bold color and compelling compositions. The Roxy Cinema New York has curated a special evening of Malia’s work and will be sitting down with the director post screening for a Q&A.
