New Essentials: Synecdoche, New York - 35MM

A theater director struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play. Synecdoche, New York is a part of The New Essentials Film Series curated by Nicolas Rapold for The Roxy Cinema. It’s a showcase of a time in the 2000’s when many filmmakers were hitting bold and beautiful new highs, often forgotten now—when new directions in international cinema were exploding left and right—and when film, not digital, was still largely the modus operandi.
