Food (1972) is a film by Gordon Matta-Clark that documents a day in the life of the legendary SoHo artist-run restaurant FOOD, which opened in 1971. Founded by Caroline Goodden, Matta-Clark, and Tina Girouard, FOOD not only employed and supported artists, it hosted weekly special dinners with guest artist chefs such as Robert Rauschenberg and Donald Judd. As a social space, meeting ground and ongoing art project for the emergent downtown artists’ community, FOOD was a landmark that still resonates in the history and mythology of SoHo in the 1970s.

This screening will include clips from the upcoming documentary Untitled Food Project, produced and directed by Zachary Graves-Miller, which explores FOOD and the work of Gordon Matta-Clark. The documentary aims to preserve the stories and history of this pivotal moment for future generations.

Following the screening, there will be a conversation with artist Lucien Smith, who is opening a new FOOD restaurant, and filmmaker Zachary Graves-Miller, moderated by Jessamyn Fiore, Co-Director of the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark.
